Residents rally round sacked postman

Almost 300 people have signed a petition calling for a popular Norwich postman who was sacked to be reinstated.

Families in Lakenham are furious that the postman, whom they know only as Glen, has been dismissed and have added their signatures to a petition in Sandy Lane Stores ahead of his appeal against the decision.

Andrew Templeton, who runs Sandy Lane Stores, has had the petition on display in his shop and says the number of signatures demonstrate what high regard their postman is held in.

He said: “He always goes the extra mile, even if he's not delivering the post but is just walking around the area. He has told people when they have left their keys in the front door and goes out of his way to be helpful.

“I remember the previous Christmas on the last day for special deliveries he came in to ask if I had seen one of the local women because he wanted to make sure she got her delivery. He said he'd come back at the end of his round with it just to make certain she got it.

“We don't know the ins and outs of why he's been sacked. We've heard he was off work with a bad back and the next minute they'd got rid of him.

“He's such a good postman and it's an excellent service. We've heard he's got some sort of appeal coming up so we wanted to show Royal Mail that the community wants him back.”

Stuart Rowe, who lives in Lakenham on the postman's delivery route, has added his name to the petition. He said: “Everyone has got so many good things to say about him. He always goes that little bit further to make sure people get a good service and you'd have thought Royal Mail would value that.”

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said “We cannot comment on individual cases but would like to re-assure customers that they will continue to receive an excellent service from Royal Mail.”

I would be a rich man if I had £10 for every time I read " A Royal Mail spokeswoman said “We cannot comment on individual cases but would like to re-assure customers that they will continue to receive an excellent service from Royal Mail.”"
Sadly Daily Mail readers will just accept such a comment without question.

Everyone on this forum will KNOW this guy "Glen" who has been sacked will definately NOT be the last to get sacked due to his sick record. Especially if he is
A: Full Time
B:In the Pension Scheme
C: Above a certain age
And D: A diligent worker that looks out for his customers.
