"Totally chaotic" - is our postal pain back again?

WE thought it had been sorted out, but fears of postal headaches may be back.

The Standard investigated postal delays around Sleaford over the summer revealing long term staff illness causing patchy deliveries - some readers were not getting mail for a week at a time.

Royal Mail assured us they were working hard to fix the problem but then came the series of strikes.

Now we are hearing that in some areas the old issue of sporadic deliveries has returned weeks after the strikes ended and we are asking readers to help us confront Royal Mail with the facts.

Peter Arnold, 76, of Hall Road, Great Hale says he has been getting letters late for important health appointments and fears the same could happen with banks statements and bills.

He described the current service as 'totally chaotic'. Mr Arnold said: "We were OK up until the last official strike, then there were no deliveries for four or five days after that."

He rang up Royal Mail customer services who assured him they would sort it out.

Mr Arnold said: "The next day I got so much mail it took me half an hour to open. I got a delivery the following day then nothing for five days. I reported it again but heard nothing for 10 days, so I rang again and received a day's delivery."

He said neighbours were also getting mail irregularly in lumps and a postman told him routes had been reorganised and their sizes increased.

Jaquie Stenson, external relations manager for Royal Mail Group, said: "We recently introduced changes to the way we work at Sleaford and we would like to apologise if customers have noticed any minor disruption to service. We are working hard to resolve any outstanding issues."

Mr Arnold had contacted his district councillor, Denis Roberts, who said: "It has been and continues to be a problem in the area. It is not satisfactory in some areas where we expect our postal service to be up to standard.
