Undelivered: 50 bags of post left to rot behind a wall
It is unlikely this patch of woodland was the official delivery address for 50 bulging postbags.
But the line of mail sacks lay abandoned for up to six weeks in an astonishing security breach.
Emblazoned with the Royal Mail logo, the bags contained letters, bank statements, mobile phones and even packages of medication dated from mid-October.
The hoard was discovered behind a low stone wall in Stockton Heath, near Warrington in Cheshire, by a jogger on Sunday.
The jogger, who did not wish to be named, said: 'I was absolutely flabbergasted when I saw it.
We haven't been affected by the strikes and have been receiving our mail but somebody is missing all these things.
'Imagine if they had fallen into the wrong hands. You have everything you need from those bank statements to steal someone's identity, and I saw mobile phones and some medication someone must need.'
A 27-year-old Warrington man has been arrested on suspicion of theft and released on police bail until January 18.
Royal Mail would not say whether any employees had been suspended but a spokesman confirmed they were in the process of delivering the letters and packages.
He said: 'We are currently investigating the incident with the police and apologise to any customers whose mail has been delayed.'
In 2006, 19-year-old postman Christopher Meek hoarded 14,000 letters and packages at his home because his post bag was 'too heavy'. He was jailed for four months by magistrates in Sunderland.

Surely (if it's delivery postie rather than manager who's done this) he hasn't stolen the mail but just mis-delivered it? That wasn't an offence lasat time I checked.
