AN ABERDEEN inventor has won a national award for his latest creation.
Engineer Jim Stage, 57, of Seafield Road, has come up with a solution for where to keep his all-important tools as he works.
Mr Stage has designed a high-visibility utility waistcoat for the Romec engineers who provide maintenance for Royal Mail throughout the UK.
Last week his creation won him the prize for best idea at Romec’s national awards for the second time.
He last picked up the award in 2004 for an early prototype of the jacket.
Mr Stage said: “This jacket is the next step up really. I had noticed how engineers have problems accessing their jackets because we are required to wear high-visibility vests over the top, so I designed a two-in-one high visibility tool waistcoat to solve the problem.
“A lot of work has gone into the vest so it is nice to see it recognised by the company.”
The jacket features a special inbuilt safety pack which saves engineers from having to return to their vehicles to retrieve earplugs, safety glasses, face masks and gloves.
Mr Stage’s invention has already been trialed with Romec workers in the north-east with great success, and he hopes it will be rolled out across Scotland in the future
