Armed robbers steal six-figure sum in post office raid

Two men have escaped with hundreds of thousands of pounds of cash after an armed raid on a post office in North Lanarkshire.

It happened on Market Place in Viewpark, Uddingston at about 1800 GMT on Tuesday.

The men threatened a member of staff with what appeared to be a gun and fled with a six-figure sum of money.

Police were eager to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspects in the area prior to the robbery.

The staff member was uninjured but left badly shaken.

The first suspect was described as white, about 6ft in height, of stocky build, wearing a black hooded top, dark jeans and Timberland style boots.

The second man was described as white, mid 30s, about 5ft 10ins in height, of medium build, wearing a dark woollen military type jumper and dark trousers or jeans and dark boots.

Both men spoke with local accents and were in possession of a large holdall.
