Sir, As a daily customer of the Post Office in Queensgate can I please refer to Mr Allan Campbell's letter (Courier 27.10.09), I would like to make a few additional comments.

Firstly, the management are not male as he would presume but are, I believe, female. Also, maybe things are bad with regards to queues, however, perhaps we should feel sorry for the staff who have to sit at that counter and see continuously long queues coming at them for the duration of their working day. I have on more than one occasion while waiting in the queue, heard the staff who have been perfectly polite to their customers, getting abuse from customers who are unhappy with the fact that the lottery counter has been done away with and the length of time they have had to wait.Surely people must realise that no staff member in their right mind wants to work under that pressure, it is certainly not through choice.
I think that the real culprit is the Post Office/Royal Mail management outwith the Inverness branch who make the decisions, but do not have to deal with the consequences or operate a main Post Office that obviously does not have enough staff. They do seem to have enough visiting managers who are quite happy to stand behind the staff on the counter and "coach" (bully?) them on their selling skills, as was the case when I was served today!
This seems to be the priority of the Post Office these days - selling you a product, nothing to do with customer service.
With the run up to Christmas, perhaps we should all start to complain to Post Office/Royal Mail Ltd instead of taking things out on the Inverness staff who really are trying to do the best they can under extremely difficult circumstances.
A. Mackenzie, Address supplied.
