The Christmas postal strike has been averted at the eleventh hour, but the damage already done to the Royal Mail is incalculable.

How nice for the Communications Workers Union to know that while pay freezes and redundancy fears ruin their Christmas, Royal Mail chief Adam Crozier has no such worries.

Crozier has paid himself almost £1million in salary and bonuses in the past year. That's on top of the £2.4million in performance bonuses and £3.6million in pay since taking over as Chief Executive in 2003.

Clearly there's a Fat Cat rulebook (also known as The Bankers' Bible) that says the worse job you do, the more you're paid.

Give yourself a bonus, boys, for all that hard work bringing down yet another national institution.
