Royal Mail Statement - 06/11/2009

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Royal Mail today released the interim agreement reached yesterday with the Communication Workers Union with the help of Brendan Barber. The company said that the agreement is on all key issues the same as that discussed last month with the union. Royal Mail said it is clearly very pleased that the CWU has now decided to accept the agreement.

Royal Mail’s statement issued yesterday evening is set out below and the agreement is attached.

Mark Higson, Managing Director of Royal Mail Letters, said [yesterday]: "I’m delighted for our customers and our people that we’ve got back to a sensible agreement with the CWU that will allow us to deliver a great Christmas while getting on with vital talks about the long term future of Royal Mail - and allows us to drive forward with the essential modernisation of Royal Mail in the new year.

"We look forward to positive and constructive discussions on the next stage of Royal Mail’s modernisation plan, which is key to the future of the company, all those who rely on it, and to the future of the Universal Service."

Mr Higson added: "I’m extremely grateful to Brendan Barber for the tremendous help and support he has given over the last few weeks. I’d also like to thank all those who have worked so hard to minimise disruption and to keep the mail moving for our customers."

"I should also add that, as the issue has been raised today, the future of the Royal Mail pension scheme does not and cannot form any part of this agreement. Earlier this year the Government put forward a package of solutions which provided a resolution to the pension issue and would have helped secure our people’s benefits - however the CWU chose to campaign against that package and the Government has since made it clear that it is now no longer available."

So after reading this statement, and taking into consideration the sacrifices that we've made, what have we actually achieved ?
How much further down the road are we, 'cause in our office it's same s**t different day .... :cry

Quite so! I truly believe we should be campaigning for change, change of leadership, change of tactics and if necessary change of union.

So the Government stole my pension contributions and has no plans to repay them? :so there

Anyway, this is word for word what he actually said on the day.

The union has made a big mistake, we had the RM on the ropes with xmas appraoching and we had to hit them where it hurts. After xmas the royal mail wont give a toss if we go on strike and will bully us again. I cant see that we have gained anything other than agreeing not to strike while they continue to talk further. We had the advantage and now we have blown it

Can anyone that knows clarify once and for all, are we going to have a vote on any deal?
Surely if we have had a vote to strike we should also have a vote to accept or reject any subsequent deal?

Yes
Maybe we should have had a vote on the "interim deal" - probably Royal Mail didn't want that.

Higson is misleading you about the pension :no no

The reality is both the government and the Conservative shadow cabinet want the PSB to be implemented in full but belive there can be no cherry picking and all of the proposals from Mr Hooper must be implemented.

The pension is part of the PSB and the offical reason from the government is the PSB has not gone to the house of commons due to economic circumstances, the government deny that our campaign against a sell off and lack of support from backbench MP's is the cause of the PSB being put on hold.

We campainged against one aspect of the PSB not the whole monty!!!!
