Spy chiefs fear Al-Qaeda is intercepting post to troops in Afghanistan in a bid to target their families.

They say radical Muslim Royal Mail workers have stolen letters and parcels to get home addresses - which they pass on to terrorists. Now top brass have told service families not to write Iraq or Afghanistan on envelopes because they will then be handled by Royal Mail. Instead, they should use a BFPO address that would put post through the secure military mail system.

A source said: "The fear is of physical reprisals against families."

Relatives can send letters and parcels under 2kg free of charge to loved ones serving in Helmand province or the Afghan capital Kabul.

British troops there - and in Iraq - have already been banned from phoning home on their mobiles after insurgents linked to al-Qaeda were found to have hi-tech scanners that download dialled numbers.

Some terrified families were then bombarded with threatening calls and gloating messages of hate.

Is Robert Kelaway a racist? Royal Mail employs many different nationalities which is one of its good points( re diversity).
if he has specific evidence of wrongdoing it should go to the police .
The civilian population have to wary of identity theft etc i don't find it unusual that the M.O.D have
handed a memo around giving soldiers sound advice on the dangers of advertising their addresses .
Has Mr Kellaway concocted a story out of almost nothing?
The BFPO is a free Royal Mail service/ postbox how uninformed can a journalist be an still write for a newspaper?..

Personal and Operational Security (PERSEC & OPSEC) is important and second nature to everybody involved in the Military and act accordingly, personally I would prefer the families or anyone sending anything to me leave no details on the outside of anything sent to me, if anything it must be written in a code only known to each other.

It does not surprise me that there are undercover Islamist working for Royal Mail, before I get accused of racism, Muslim is a religion not a race, nothing is beneath them, working for a Universal Caliphate is their aim nothing less, any means fair or foul is fair game to them, we already had home grown radicalised Islamist working here and carried out suicide bombings, protested against returning troops, spiting on our Country, insulting and offered threats of violence to anyone opposing their Ideology, what irks me is that they were allowed to do this openly without censure while if any of us dares to do the same, we are the ones who gets attention from the Police.

Something is very wrong, Multiculturalism is a failed policy and has been proved to have failed, creating division and ghettoes, Integration is how it should be, all Immigrants should participate fully into British life, by assimilating our values, English Language, History, Culture, Civic duties and Responsibility to adhere to the above or leave, this is a sensible policy, nothing to do with race or religion, its about becoming British, we would cut down our Home grown Islamist and promote a safer Country without divisions.

I always put my return address on all my mail I send to family in the forces. A close relative is going out to Afghanistan over the next month so I'll be sending mail to him with my address on it. I feel sorry for any muslim terrorist who comes into my neighbourhood looking for me, the local youth will have the wheels off their pick-up long before they get to my street.

Wrong - Muslim is a believer or follower of Islam. To be correct your sentence should read "Islam is a religion not a race"

But I am afraid I disagree with the rest of your post. Integration as a choice yes, but not by diktat or by law, down there lies the route of the "Final Solution" - I can never support the BNP based on one thing, they are not an inclusive political party they are in fact exclusive and I have always felt that to combat hate you have to understand others views, by definition a party that excludes can never understand or deal with successfully with illegal or legal immigration.

OPSEC and PERSEC, that took me back and I still practice it, I still do the Belfast shuffle even when I am on delivery.

BTW you forgot COMSEC which I try to follow on here as well. Its ingrained.

Thank you for your correction, as to the rest of my post, I still stand by it, I am not a card carrying member of BNP, my view is that inclusion is the only way to remove any possibility of separate nation within a nation developing, I am in favour of positive Immigration, skilled people coming here and is willing to contribute and be part of the United Kingdom, also to reduce any chancers, I we should change our benefit system like France and Germany, you cannot claim benefit for 7 years, not 1 year as it is now, that way we can reduce reduce Bogus Asylum seekers as we would be no different from France or Germany, this would reduce any inflow of Bogus Asylum seekers as there is no incentive.

Britain is a nation of Immigrants, we had Celts, Romans, Saxons/Jutes, Danes, Vikings, Normans, Hottentots, Jews,Empire Citizens West Indians, Asian Indians, Pakistanis, Africans, Polish WW2 and the recent Polish arrivals, a small minority of other Nationalities, in all cases most of them have fitted in, the small minority that does not and disrespects our Country does not deserve the right to live here.

I am wary of the threat posed by radical Muslims.
im against burkah wearing and all the other undemocratic practices.
but royal mail workers have been on the receiving end of some very negative publicity lately
and i was offended by the simplistic logic that
RM employs Muslims =terrorist=Royal Mail threat.
please advise people to think about their mail, but
should i regard every Indian shopkeeper(steriotype!) as a potential threat ?
simple analogy.. i could get involved in a traffic accident but it doesn't stop me going out! we all got lives to lead
if fear makes us modify our behavior to much extremists win.
