Households in some areas say they are receiving a better postal service as agency staff fill in for striking workers.

Teams of temporary workers are now not only sorting the mail during the national strike but delivering it too - and appear to be doing a better job than the usual staff.

Royal Mail managers have also joined in to help deliver letters and packages.

Residents have been surprised to discover their post arrives during the three-day strike, in many cases earlier than normal.

How ridiculous, someone should tell this so-called journalist to do their research.Postal delivery staff are on strike today.
Sorting staff were on strike Thursday therefore there was less mail to be delivered by delivery staff in on Friday. Therefore customers would have received their letters earlier than normal on Friday.

We are receiving our mail due to our Postie working as usual! I appreciate her doing so even though she will not be popular for doing so I suppose?
I have been involved in union activities for most of my working life and I believe everyone should have a free choice as to whether one works or not through a dispute.
I truly believe that this country needs to have an Essential Services Act to cover all essential services workers.
This would involve some serious legislation being enacted to ensure continuity of all services involved while ensuring a fair outcome for everyone involved. Strikes are futile and only serve to cause disruption to the economy of the country, business, and the individual now manning the picket lines. It would involve an independent panel being set up to deal with grievances from whichever quarter. Decisions would be binding on all and strikes would be outlawed with resulting fines on erring unions. They cannot afford to lose money or members just as management cannot afford to lose custom or money through bad practices on either side.
I have enacted change in my role during my working life albeit on the shop-floor or in management. Practices need to change on both sides of the equasion for the development and growth of the organism. That is how things need to happen! Otherwise the organism will become extinct. How many of you recall the Miners? Everyone lost in that dispute and should serve as a warning.
My view is that you need not be afraid of change in your industry. You do need to be afraid of change not occurring! Embrace it and you too will benefit along with everyone else involved!
