A MEETING in support of the borough's striking postal workers will take place on Thursday.

Members of the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) have been in dispute with Royal Mail over changes to job security and to pay and conditions, and they have staged a series of walkouts in recent weeks.

The Royal Mail has accused the union of deliberately trying to wreck services, while the CWU says management has been changing pay and conditions without proper consultation.

Waltham Forest Trades Council (WFTC) has organised a meeting to take place this Thursday (15) at the Rose & Crown public house in Hoe Street, Walthamstow.

WFTC secretary Darren O'Grady said: “Cuts in public services will not only hurt workers in the public sector and the services they provide but make the recession worse and hurt every worker.

“This is why Waltham Forest Trades Council has called this special meeting to organise to help the posties win.

“We want every union branch and major workplace in the borough to be represented at this important meeting.”

Local services will be disrupted severely again this week.

CWU distribution and processing staff at the East London Mail Centre, in Bromley-by-Bow,will stage a walk-out tomorrow as will workers at the distribution hub in Leyton.

Thursday's WFTC meeting begins at 7pm.
