West Yorkshire inquest caretaker in Royal Mail probe

A caretaker found hanged at the primary school where he worked was a former postman being investigated by Royal Mail.
Father-of-three Scott Adams, 28, was found dead in the boiler room at Orchard Head Junior and Infant School, Pontefract in June.

An inquest at Wakefield heard Mr Adams had started work as a postman last June but left that job after only three months.

He started work as a caretaker at the school last August and lived with his family in a house next to the school in the Nevison area of Pontefract.

The court heard Mr Adams was interviewed by Royal Mail in April this year in connection with his former job as a postman.

He later received a summons to appear before magistrates at Pontefract.

Mr Adams was said to have attended court but proceedings had been adjourned.

He had been watching TV with his wife Joanne who went to bed at around 1am on Thursday June 25.

His body was found by police officers who were called out to the school after the security alarm was activated just before 8am by staff.

Paramedics attended and Mr Adams was pronounced dead at the scene.

The inquest was told a handwritten note found near the body indicated Mr Adams' intention to take his own life.

Pupils were told not to attend school on the Thursday and Friday and returned the following Monday.

West Yorkshire Coroner David Hinchliff said apart from the stress of the court case Mr Adams' wife Joanne had been aware her husband had a number of financial worries.

Mr Hinchliff recorded a verdict of suicide.
