Postal strike: London hit before strikes go nationwide

Tomorrow a number of postal delivery offices in London will not be operating due to localised strikes by members of the Communication Workers Union opposed to Royal Mail's moderniastion plans.

Altogether four delivery offices will be affected in Battersea, Earls Court, South Kensington, Victoria.

The CWU claims that there are around 20 million items of undelivered mail in London alone, although Royal Mail say the real figure is around a quarter of that.

On Saturday the localised strikes are set to intensify with 15 delivery offices, mainly in south and west London, going on strike.

In other parts of the country network drivers will be going strike for 24 hours from 4am. Drivers from 17 distribution centres all over England will be striking.

The CWU has threatened the possibility of a national strike and will ballot it's 130,000 members in the Royal Mail from 16 to 30 September.

Royal Mail has condemned the plan for a national strike as "wholly irresponsible".
