COULD I say on behalf of the postal workers here in Stoke-on-Trent a big thank you to the public, and in particular Emma Gilbert (Letters, Friday, September 4) for their support in our recent industrial action. We do realise the disruption this can cause to businesses and the public alike, but uppermost in our minds is the future of Royal Mail itself and what appears to be the systematic break-up of this once great service.
Modernisation is a good thing, but should be done in co-operation with the staff and should not be done at any and all costs.
With public support, we may be able to make Royal Mail see sense and pull back from the abyss that privatisation would surely be. Stoke-on-Trent can be in the top five post services again as it once was – Royal Mail just needs to listen.
