POSTMEN on strike in Hampstead have vowed to do their best to get A-level results delivered to schools tomorrow but admitted industrial action could leave the papers delayed for up to two days.
Workers striking at the depot in Shepherd's Walk were due to return to work today after yesterday's one day strike to try and get the all important exam results out.
But post workers have admitted that strike action elsewhere in the country this week could have slowed the results from arriving at the office.
One postman, who asked not to be named, said: "This week other offices outside London are on strike so the results could be affected if they are coming from marking bodies elsewhere in the country.
"If the results are in by the morning though, they will definitely be delivered. The results have never been delayed in Hampstead before. It just depends where the results are coming from."
Results usually arrive at the post office depots in special sealed bags on Wednesday night and are delivered first thing the next day.
Schools in the area seemed confident results would arrive on time and none of those contacted by the Ham&High were expecting delays.
The postman defended the strike action in the face of criticism over possible results chaos.
He said: "Industrial action is vital. We are trying to defend this public service before it is too late.
