A POSTMAN was left disabled after a savage attack by two Rottweilers, a court was told.

At a hearing at Cambridge Magistrates' Court yesterday (Monday), not guilty pleas to charges of being in control of a dog causing an injury in a private location were entered on behalf of millionaire businessman Robert Stewart, 44, and his daughter Emma Stewart, 22.

The charges relate to the attack on postman Keith Davies, from Royston, which took place near the Stewarts' mansion in Gazeley Lane, Trumpington, on December 22 last year.

Neither of the Stewarts was in court for the hearing, which saw prosecutor Paul Brown request a crown court date due to the severity of Mr Davies' injuries and the complicated legal issues involved.

Elaine Havord, representing the accused, did not oppose this.

Mr Stewart, managing director of Stevenage Packaging and former Royston Town Football Club chairman, had the dogs put down following the incident.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction over the case which was adjourned to November 27 for committal to crown court.
