Crisis in morale for Royal Mail as it tries to avoid strike.
TIMES ONLINE
Royal Mail faces a crisis in staff morale amid last-ditch attempts to avert the first national postal strike in 11 years, leaked internal documents have revealed.
The organisation’s monthly barometer of staff satisfaction levels found that just 29 per cent of staff believe that they are valued by management. About 21 per cent of Royal Mail workers say that they have witnessed bullying and harrassment.
The dissatisfaction comes amid the threat of a national postal strike over job cuts and pay. The Communication Workers Union will set dates for the strike this week unless Royal Mail raises its pay offer of 2.5 per cent.
This weekend Adam Crozier, Royal Mail’s chief executive, wrote to the union offering talks at the conciliation service Acas. However, Royal Mail is making clear that it will not raise its offer but only explain further the current offer to the union at Acas.
The internal staff morale survey is a blow for Royal Mail’s senior management, which has tried to make the organisation a more attractive place to work.
The CWU’s postal executive is due to meet on Thursday to set strike dates unless an agreement is reached at Acas. However, a spokesman for Royal Mail said: “Royal Mail is contacting Acas not to make any concessions in our position but to try to explain to the union once again the very serious challenges the business now faces in an open, competitive market and the huge damage a strike would do to all of our people and to our customers.â€

When you go to ACAS I was under the impression that it was ALL cards on the table, lets talk, with ACAS mediators. Now RM is not serious or bluffing it does not want to go to ACAS, but will do under duress. It is hellbent on a strike, which will do no side any good, so their game plan is???? Could not the press highlight the fact that management are gunning for this fight and not the workers. :lfo

"Royal Mail absolutely values its people" Just as the ancient Egyptians valued the Children of Israel or an Alabama cotton grower valued Africans or a Victorian mill owner valued his mill hands.
Managers! What a shower, eh?

I work in Rossendale.
We have been the #1 performing office for our size for something like 9 months straight. RM just hit us for another 5% in savings & now it's all fallen apart. Our manager has had to do a delivery every day for the last two weeks.
Leighton takes & takes & now a very successful office has gone to s**t. There is zero chance of us making target to get the promised £400 through no fault of our own. We're thousands of pounds over budget because RM has changed the goal posts, yet according to the managers pence per mile spreadsheet we are the most efficient office in the area.
Talk about being punished for being successful. I hope we lose every contract so that the government can see what a cock up they've made of a great service.

Although I agree with the sentiment the pain would be to much. Our office sounds the same as yours AND we still have blokes running round, making excuses for the potty management, and doing all the overtime, saying ,I knew we would not get extra money so I have taken on an afternoon SA. Can they not see that soon this will also be goneTalk about being punished for being successful. I hope we lose every contract so that the government can see what a cock up they've made of a great service.

As a cull of staff is not the way to reach goals all it does is rip the heart right out of the business and the engine of it.. The workers.. Not the screws or office bods The true workers on deliverys and loading bays and on sorting frames for 8 hours... So dont tell us you want to make it FAIR COZ U DONT U SCUMMY SLIMEY TURD!!!! :lfo :cfo for good!!!Durden wrote:I work in Rossendale.
