Bristol - Another postal strike gets under way

Hundreds of postal workers are staging a 24-hour strike in a dispute over pay, jobs and conditions.

The walk-out of about 1,200 employees at a mail centre in Bristol is the latest in a series organised by the Communication Workers Union (CWU).

Around 12,000 postal workers in London held a 24-hour strike on Wednesday - and more are set to follow as the stand-off between the union and the Royal Mail becomes increasingly bitter.

A CWU spokeswoman said: "Unfortunately, we haven't had any progress at all with Royal Mail.

"There's no negotiation whatsoever. Royal Mail will talk to us but will not listen to what we have to say."

Royal Mail has accused the union of breaking the agreement that ended the 2007 strike and of refusing to co-operate with modernisation.
