VANDALS were not responsible for uprooting a "monstrosity business mail box in Marlow, Royal Mail have revealed.

Drivers and pedestrians were shocked to see the unit had been knocked over last week but suspicions that thugs had knocked it over were unfounded.

The box (pictured) was photographed laying on its side on the High Street with a paving slab upturned but Royal Mail said it was simply being removed by its staff.

The organisation agreed to switch the location of the container last month after former mayor cllr Richard Scott labelled it a “monstrosity”.

The business mail container sits next to a traditional red post box, which is used for general mail.

Cllr Scott said it cluttered the road and looked “awful”.

It was intended the box would be relocated to Dean Street.

However, underground cabling meant this was not possible and a new site is being searched for.

Royal Mail spokesman Nick Martens said, despite how it may have looked, the box had not been criminally damaged.

He added: “Following discussions with local councillors we have removed the business post box in Marlow High Street and are currently searching for an alternative location for the box.”
