Scottish Postal workers strike over jobs

Workers at seven Royal Mail delivery offices in Scotland have been taking part in a 24-hour strike in a row over job cuts and services.

Royal Mail said about 330 staff at two offices in Edinburgh and others in Dunfermline, Cowdenbeath, Grangemouth, Bathgate and Irvine were involved.

About 160 distribution drivers in Edinburgh were among thousands in the UK who took action on Friday.

Royal Mail said "robust contingency plans" were put in place.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) said accused Royal Mail of cuts which break a national agreement and threatened modernisation.

Royal Mail said it had honoured existing agreements.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said it had put robust contingency plans in place to minimise disruption to its customers.

She said: "Industrial action will not modernise Royal Mail - it will simply disrupt the service, annoy customers and lead to an even greater loss of business, leaving Royal Mail less able to protect full time jobs - and the Universal Service in the competitive marketplace."

god bless all you hardworking guys who have benn sacraficing your hard earned groats for the greater good of your fellow man(& woman) because this approaching storm is slowly but surely coming and we need every man(&woman) to be strong and be ready to batten down the hatches as we prepare for one of the biggest and bloodiest fights a union has ever faced because this fight is about every decent man(&woman) who trys to earn a legal groat to to feed his family and put a roof over there head ,and to enjoy life and to take satisfaction from his(&her) job and to give the customer(god! i hate saying this but..) a world class experience ,because as my old pappy used to say that if a job is worth doing then its worth doing well as ,and ithink i can speak for all you decent and hard working brothers(&sisters) that we do try and do this...daily but as usual they never seem to let us just get on with the bloody job because if theres an easy way to do the job then royal mail will do it the hard way and after the fall out from that we get left to clean the s**t off the fan ,but we soldier on and do the job within the constraints of the useless fuds who are hell bent on steering the good ship royal mail straight into that f***ing iceberg and i for one will do everthing within my grasp to wrestle that steering wheel from those fuds and stick it right up their ronson lighter with great delight....but! brothers(&sisters) there are people within our camp who have been on the darkside, those brothers(&sisters) who have a scabby appearance and the others who have 2 faces within their soul who have been slowly poisining this icon with their twisted potions of i'malrightjackitis so we must fight on two fronts but with strong and positive leadership (sorry billy but ithink daves the man )we can march into the battle knowing that we are fighting as one for the same and thats our .............FREEDOM !..............sorry couldnt resist that ,but it is our freedom from the constraints of a dictatorship
