Post returned to normal after murder bid arrest

ROYAL Mail have confirmed that they will reinstate deliveries to a notorious Barrhead street - one week after a postie was shot.

All postal deliveries to Crossmill Avenue were suspended last week following an alleged murder bid on a postman.

Residents of the street had to collect their mail from the post office on Cross Arthurlie Street for the Last week.

One resident said: “We are appalled at what happened.

“It has been a nightmare having to go to the Post Office every morning to collect our mail.

“I am very glad to hear that we will get our postal deliveries back now.”

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “Postal services in Crossmill Avenue and the Dunterlie area will return to normal next week.

“We can confirm that an incident took place which is subject to a police investigation.

“The health and safety of our staff is paramount .”

The 53-year-old victim was allegedly shot in the head and mouth as he carried out his morning rounds.

He was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and had to undergo emergency surgery.

Police arrested a man and he will appear at Paisley Sheriff Court in connection with the incident.

Crossmill Avenue has been dubbed the ‘most violent street’ in the West of Scotland.

Two killers Thomas Peacock, 25, and Stephen Price, 20, lived in the street and are both serving life behind bars for violent murders.
