HERE’S a question. Which prominent businessman uttered the following words yesterday: “Our people . . . have delivered strong financial results and high-quality customer service across all our businesses”? Full marks to those who answered correctly that it was Adam Crozier, chief executive of Royal Mail, while announcing the doubling of profits to more than £320million. There will, no doubt, be champagne corks popping in the corridors of power and huge bonus cheques for the senior managers who have delivered such handsome returns while providing “high-quality” service.
Meanwhile, in the forgotten north of Scotland, the abandoned customers of this out-of-touch behemoth face driving several miles to find a post office which has not been shut down in Mr Crozier’s drive to improve the service his company delivers. And all the while, these ungrateful villagers mutter and complain about the disappearance of what they viewed as an essential part of rural life, but which was, in fact, merely a drain on Royal Mail’s resources.
Perhaps, on reflection, every village which has been robbed of its post office should raise a glass to a man whose idea of quality service is on a different plane from the rest of us.

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

What an excellent article! It's a pity, that it will be totally ignored by those who make the stupid, irrisponsible, decisions to close Post Offices. Just like the on-line consultation, that they have also ignored!
