RESIDENTS were forced to pick up their own mail when postal deliveries were suspended to homes in Brighouse.
Royal Mail took the unusual step after a dog roaming the streets tried to bite a postman.
But people living in the Smith House area were not happy when they realised the only way to get their mail was to collect it from the sorting office at Birds Royd Lane, Brighouse.
Chairman of the Smith House Residents' and Tenants' Association Mrs Dot Bell said it was impossible for some people to get to the sorting office.
Along with other residents she received a letter from Royal Mail last Friday saying deliveries were suspended until further notice and mail had to be picked up from the sorting office.
"But the only times it could be collected was between 7am and noon. I'm at work each day and it's impossible to get there between those times. Other elderly people will not be able to get there," she said.
She understood letters had only gone to homes where the dog had been seen roaming.
