That's definately an alarm box on the PO. So what went wrong with it?
Did they forget to set it?
Did the Burgulars know the code?
Was it broken?

The police response time to burglar alarms in usually pretty bad (unless they are driving past they usually take around 20 minutes to respond) and it only takes 2/3 minutes to break in and take what they want.
