POST OFFICE TO BE SUED OVER LONG QUEUES

A FED-UP customer is taking the Post Office to the High Court in a bid to make it shorten queuing times.

Furious Paul Bryant claims waiting times at branches have shot up since 2003 when a policy limiting queuing to five minutes was ditched.

The problem has got even worse in the last year, he says, when the Post Office started to close some of the smaller branches.

Mr Bryant launched his first legal challenge to overturn the decision to abandon the policy in 2005.

The decision had originally been taken by the Post Office and ratified by the postal services commissioner, Postcomm.

His first attempt was rejected by a High Court judge but Mr Bryant says he was not given enough time to state his case.

Now he is ready to take his challenge against the Post Office, Postcomm and Royal Mail, back to the same court.

Mr Bryant, 35, from Southsea, Hants, said he was moved to act after he was stuck in a queue in Portsmouth’s main Slindon Street branch. Customers had to wait so long that one distressed young disabled girl in the queue in front of him wet herself.

He said: “They are closing post offices all over the country and not catering for the length of the queues when people are dispersed to other places.”

He has been backed by fellow customers and by pensioners’ groups, who claim elderly people are suffering because of the length of the queues and the time they have to wait.

I'm not sure suing RM will be too effective, as they keep whining about not having enough money to keep them open. Perhaps it would be better, to try to sue those who are actually authorising the closures personally. I'm not sure if that's possible. But surely it's worth a thought.
