Alarm raised as Denbighshire postmen use rented vans

RESIDENTS in Llandyrnog, Denbighshire, are being reassured by the Post Office about postmen delivering mail in non company vehicles.

Some Denbighshire residents raised concerns over why rented vehicles were being used by some postmen instead of the familiar red vans.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "Royal Mail uses a variety of transport facilities to deliver and collect mail daily to more than 28 million addresses across the UK.

"The vast majority of vehicles are our own red liveried Royal Mail vans and bicycles.

"Occasionally, however, when a van suffers a breakdown or is involved in an accident, we will hire a vehicle as a temporary measure to ensure that the mail is delivered and collected as efficiently and effectively as possible.

"This would normally be a van hire, but on this occasion the hire company could only provide a hire car, rather than a hire van, which was then used by the postman to deliver to customers in Llandyrnog."

The spokesman added all postmen and women wear Royal Mail uniform and carry Royal Mail identification, which can be shown to customers on request.

common short term practice for a long time , leasing things out ; all RM have to do is put diesel in them - and it's all that shows on the books , the RM vans are mothballed , no maintenance , overhauls , no nothing showing on the books .

The Building Trade works that way - all the plant , the vans is leased out , work subbed out , however it puts the cost up as everybody has to make a profit instead of everything direct in house .

that's the way to do it , start finding things wrong with a white van but be discreet as to how you do it as RM will conduct you as you're blowing the gaff on everything .

Chances are the vans will have been absolutely hammered as nobody is going to give a sh** about them , the Hire Firms will be looking to increase their margins so they won't be going into garages , it may be possible that the Hire Firms don't even own them as they could be the property of the manufacturers , think about it , it's not in their interest to have yards of newly built vans doing nothing and they're hardly going to fly out of showrooms so they have to get some money lend / leasing them out ?

lol any hire vans we have had have been in far better nick than the RM van its replacing!

I have been with Royal Mail for 18 months and I have never had an I.D card...hope nobody ever asks me for it.
