Furious residents deliver a message to Royal Mail bosses
Infuriated residents are continuing their campaign against the removal of their
beloved postman of 14 years, after their postal service has continued to suffer.
Elvis Rugani, who delivered in the Wembley Hill area for 14 years, has been
moved off his patch, and residents say their service has not been the same since.
Fabiola Marini, of Mostyn Avenue, Wembley, and a member of the Wembley Hill
Residents Association, said: "I find post on the ground and have to redeliver post
from Linden Avenue at least twice a week!
We now have a different postman everyday and it is very threatening to elderly and
vulnerable resident - anyone could have a red bag across their shoulder, and be
dressed in a tracksuit and T-shirt with no ID."
Peter Corcoran, Tokyngton ward, who also lives in Mostyn Avenue, said: "The Royal
Mail is tasked with delivering registered mail containing passports and drivers'
licences etc, yet they could not care less where or how they drop these valuable items.
The service provided by Royal Mail is contemptible and it is a serious breach of the
Data Protection Act.
Elvis would love to do the walk he has had for the last 14 years, but he can't as it has
been greatly extended with agency staff running about the place trying to cover the
extra work.
The agency staff are losing and mis-delivering mail under pressure to finish on time.
We have had a different postman each of the last four days and the service is now
chronic.
We simply won't put up with it and we will take direct action if it continues."
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: "Realignment of delivery rounds happens at all our
offices and there is no link to this and levels of services.
Some newer staff may not yet have been provided with a uniform but all staff have
identification which will be produced on request."
