STAFF at a Woking post office were held captive while an armed robber ransacked the store.

Now police are appealing for witnesses to the raid at St John’s Post Office on Saturday.

The masked attacker, brandishing a knife and handgun, overpowered the owners and tied them up at about 7.30am.

When a second member of staff arrived, they were also threatened and forced into a back room.

The raider then spent some time searching the premises, leaving with a quantity of cash between 8.50 and 9am.

The suspect was described as a white man, about 5ft 11in tall and of stocky build.

He was wearing dark-coloured clothing and a balaclava.

Detective Sergeant Colin Pirie, of West Surrey CID, said: “The offence took place in the High Street of St John’s, in the main shopping area close to two bus stops, at a relatively busy time of the day.

“Crimes like this are very rare in the area and therefore I’m hopeful someone who was out and about may have seen and remembered something that could help us.

“We believe the suspect left the scene on foot, so I’m urging anyone who was saw a man matching the description to get in touch.

“It is also possible that he discarded his balaclava and dark clothes nearby, so if you find any suspicious clothing in the St John’s area please let us know.”
