Valentine's surprise for Peter Mandelson from postal workers

Communication Workers' Union sends cards to every MP arguing against part-privatisation of Royal Mail

There's little sign that the postal workers' union is warming to Peter Mandelson after he revealed his enthusiasm for turning post offices across the land into branches of a People's Bank, as the Communication Workers' Union wants.

The business secretary hopes to woo opponents of his plan to part-privatise the Royal Mail – of which there are many – with the proposal.

"You get a People's Bank, we flog part of Royal Mail to the Dutch company TNT," is the pitch.

Today, Billy Hayes, the combative general secretary of the CWU, popped Valentine's cards (pdf) to every MP into the post (quite a lot of stamps).

The little poem inside lacks the loving touch; in fact it threatens electoral divorce if they choose a bit of foreign interest on the side:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Keep the post public,
And we'll vote for you

Hayes adds: "Don't cheat on the British people with a smooth-talking new partner who can't be trusted. Don't break the nation's hearts - keep the post public."

An emotional tussle looms as Mandelson draws up his part-privatisation bill.

not the greatest fan of Richard Littlejohn and certainly not that hysterical Tory rag- The Daily Mail but I starting to agree with him re :mfo

Firstly it's Blackmail ! - i.e. you'll all lose your pensions , now he's looking for concessions if people are daft enough to go for part privatization with TNT .

1 . It's to get him and New Liebour out of the hole they dug themselves into with jumping the gun with EEC Directives and appointing all these sharp suited spivs and conmen to run RM in the first place .
2 . I suspect that it's to keep Murdoch sweet for the General Election in 2010 - Most Labour MP's believe they are doomed anyway !

What a c**t , never mind - The Prince of Darkness ! - There's a comic satire strip on the One Eyed Scottish Idiot and his Cabinet in Private Eye called The Broons , in one , Pa Broon is asked why he brought :mfo back - the answer was " because he's more hated and despised than me " :Very Happy

Can someone please enlighten me as i'm confused. Labour came to power wanting to change the house of lords as it was just jobs for the boys, so why do they use it to give jobs to various of their own boys and girlsof which Meddleson is only the latest. How long will it be before scandel hits Mandie again????????????/ :mfo :mfo

Got better now - Postal Minister McFadden is making threats about watering down the USO , no Saturday delivery .

New Liebour originally wanted to redress the Tory balance in the House of Lords , that's how the Tories got Poll Tax through years ago but that backfired on them . New Liebour are no different , Retread Minister , Mandy will come unstuck again ; he's disposable , it's getting like the last days of the Major Government with all this desperation . Privately they know they are doomed with that one eyed Scottish Idiot and his awful arrogant cabinet . :mfo

It looks like we can rest easy as far as privatisation is concerned, part or full. However after June 2010 it will be back because the old Etonian with the smooth face will be looking to raise some cash. And so in a strange way the best option for us could be a hung parliament so that neither the Tories or Labour could get the neccesary bill through the Commons.
