A busy post office has opened its doors – a year and a day after a car crashed through the front of the shop.
Minsterworth Post Office was almost destroyed when a car careered through the main window on January 24 last year.
But now, after the longest holiday in his career, postmaster Richard Swinburne is welcoming his customers back.
He said: “It’s been a bit strange, but we’re back and we are fine.
“I’ve been doing the house up while the insurance company and the builders have been doing their thing in the shop.
“We’ve got a new computer system in which has taken some time to install.”
The crash, last January almost destroyed the shop, which sits next to Lyes Abattoir on the A48.
The post office remained covered in scaffolding for most of the year as builders worked to repair the damage.
In a year which has seen many of his fellow postmasters lose their shops in a round of Government cuts, Mr Swinburne said he is happy to be back in business.
“It’s been a tough year for post offices,” he said.
“People thought we had closed down.
“But I have had most of the regulars back in on $first morning.”
Mr Swinburne, who has run the post office for 11 years, said he hoped new speed traps on the A48 outside his shop would stop a repeat of the accident which almost destroyed his business.
He said: “There is only one reason for these accidents and I have seen most of them.
“They are not always on this side of the road.
“If you drive past you will see a new lamppost, new fences and a new electricity pole on the other side where people have come off there.
“Speed is a problem and I hope these speed traps work.”

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
