The post office where Craig Hodson-Walker was shot dead in an armed robbery reopened yesterday thanks to a team of volunteers.
Fairfield General Stores and Post Office opened for the first time since the shooting just over two weeks ago.
More than 150 people responded to a call for help to run the Worcestershire store in the absence of the Hodson-Walker family.
A statement from the Fairfield community said: “They (the volunteers) will offer the same high standard of service the Hodson-Walker’s have over the past few years. As a community there is a strong feeling that the shop should be open as soon as possible and that the people who committed this dreadful act should not be shown to be winning.”
Mr Hodson-Walker, 29, died after being shot in the chest during an armed robbery at the store on January 9.
His father, Ken, was also shot in the leg during the raid on the premises in Stourbridge Road.
The statement from villagers continued: “Ken and Judy wish to give special thanks to Paul Peacock, a local councillor who has worked tirelessly in the background to make opening the shop possible in such a short period of time. Without his efforts it would not have been possible.”
A trained Post Office worker will work with the team of volunteers to run the shop.
A spokesman for the Post Office said: “In line with the family’s wishes we have been working hard to reopen the post office as quickly as possible.”
The store is open from 7am until 7pm weekdays and on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
