A sick postal worker who raped and abducted a stranger last year was jailed today.

Ishmail Sheriff, of Rembrandt Way, Coley Park, prowled Oxford Road, West Reading, in his 4x4 Land Rover Freelander looking for a victim in the early hours of April 9, last year, Oxford Crown Court heard.

Sheriff, who worked at the Royal Mail sorting office in Caversham Road, stopped when he saw a 47-year-old woman walking alone.

He grabbed her and pulled her down an alleyway where he covered her mouth with tape and blindfolded her with her own scarf before abducting her and raping her repeatedly in an unknown location.

Sentencing, Judge Anthony King called the incident a “wicked and premeditated attack.”

At Oxford Crown Court today he was given indeterminate sentences of a minimum of four years and 11 months for each count of rape, attempted rape, kidnap and sexual assault to run concurrently. He was convicted of the offences after a trial.
