WITH his job, you’d think postman Greg Creighton would be slim and fit.

But despite walking between three and four miles a day, Greg was still overweight and had to turn to a slimming club to lose it.

He is starting 2009 a stone and a half lighter after joining the WeightWatchers class in Kings Norton – where he was one of just two men there.

Greg, 53, joined the session at Kings Norton Tennis Club with his wife Bernie, 47, who has lost just over a stone.

He said: “Everyone thinks all postmen are slim because of the amount of walking we do, but I was proof that some of us are fat.

“Yes, I was doing a lot of walking, but I was compensating for that by eating a lot.”

When he joined the class at the end of September he tipped the scales at 13st 11lb, but now weighs in at a healthier 12st 5lb.

He was spurred into action when he saw a photo of himself at his son’s wedding.

“I’d bought a new suit and spent all day thinking I looked pretty good,” he said.

“But when I saw the photos I was shocked at how fat I looked.

“Bernie had wanted to go to WeightWatchers for some time so we decided to join together.”

Previously Greg would get up at 4am and tuck into toast for breakfast. At 8am, halfway through his round, he would stop and have a sausage bap.

At lunchtime when he finished he would tuck into chicken wings, potato wedges or a pastie, followed by mid afternoon snacks and then a full dinner.

Today, he has a breakfast of porridge, snacks on raisins and sultanas and cereal bars, has a fajita or salad for lunch and a healthy dinner.

“I’ve lost the weight but haven’t felt like I’ve been dieting at all. I couldn’t get to grips with WeightWatchers’ Points system so instead have gone for the Core Plan which is much better for me,” he said.”
