Postman fails to deliver mail for four years

UNDELIVERED mail that was withheld by a postman for more than four years has been returned to residents in Derby.

Royal Mail said it was now seeking to prosecute the employee responsible after its security team recovered the missing letters that were bound for homes in DE24 area of the city.

Residents only became aware of the problem after the undelivered mail was returned to them yesterday and today.

A spokeswoman for Royal Mail said: "Royal Mail has a zero tolerance approach to any dishonesty and that stance is shared by the overwhelming majority of postmen and women, who are honest and hardworking and who do all they can to protect the mail and deliver it safely.

"We will always seek to prosecute the tiny minority of people who abuse their position of trust."
