Postie dumped 5,000 pieces of mail in street
http://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/articles/1/31605/
A POSTMAN has admitted dumping thousands of letters, due to be delivered to Inverclyde homes, in a Greenock street.
The sheriff court yesterday heard Gordon Lappin, 27, opened postal packets at Inverclyde Delivery Office before dumping 16 bags of mail in Thomas Muir Street, where he lives.
The sacks contained more than 5,000 pieces of post addressed to Greenock householders.
The offence took place between 1 August, 2007, and 1 February this year.
The shamed postman also admitted delaying or failing to deliver another 653 postal packages and dumping them in Gibshill Road in Greenock between 1 November last year and 1 February 2008.
Lappin — a junior football star who once played for Greenock Juniors and senior side Queen’s Park — was present in court when the case called before Sheriff John Herald. He was represented by defence solicitor Gerry Keenan.
Mr Keenan said: “He pleads guilty to both charges.”
Lappin played with Scottish Second Division side Queen’s Park after signing for them in 2002.
He also starred previously for Greenock Juniors and Clydebank, where he was made the club captain.
The highly-rated midfielder is currently playing with Largs Thistle, after signing for them from the Bankies in July this year.
Lappin stood with head bowed in the dock as Sheriff Herald told him: “In this case I will need to find out more about you.
“Sentence will be deferred for the preparation of community service and social enquiry reports.”
Lappin was ordered to appear again in January.

A message to the judge from one of the vast majority of honest and hard working posties - LOCK HIM UP and throw away the key

"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

I am a postman and I kept the faith and I kept voting, not for new labour but for the working man.

When will we get a deterrant?
This bone idle criminal @!@&@!*@ will probably get off with Community Service, or a few months of Jail, at worst. When will the Government learn that we need a REAL deterrant, to stop the tiny minority of criminals like him?
If he was risking several years of Jail time. He might not have tried his scam!
