Oh Dear - next target is Delivery Offices - listen to :lfo at 2:30 in the video he nearly says Delivery Offices and he certainly has not told anyone about that, at least not an a National Basis.

Next round of cuts will be entitled Delivery Rationalisation you heard it here.

The only surprise to me is that the delivery offices aren't the first to go - there must be dozens and dozens of small offices under 50 deliveries which would be ripe for "rationalisation" and there is absolutely no doubt it will be a massive shift in locale - hence the 2 in a van, many local offices will disappear and there will be a hub delivery scheme.

Anyway back too the topic in the title this is just the thin end of the wedge this is only two area's as i understand it, If they get away with this how many more office's it will be a damn site more than 13 office's when it is rolled out nationally!. In my opinion 13 office's is 13 too many and one job lost is one job too many!. Oh and i nearly forgot the ddlivryyeerrrrr nearly let the cat of the bag there did you big boy :lfo ONCE THE MAIL CENTER'S HAVE BEEN SORTED THEY WILL COME FOR THE DELIVERY OFFICE'S!. :lfo :evil/mad :evil/mad

Mail still needs to be delivered, you would need a suitably large building to accomodate all the delivery frames from all these offices and the Posties would have to drive futher to work, it can add further expense in addition to increased utility bills, food cost, fuel cost etc ....

I would not be a happy bunny.

to add I remember talking to one supervisor, he think its going to get worse, we would be looking at a 5 hour delivery, in the future, in some way sit would be going back to what we did before SDD, one half in the morning, the other half in the afternoon.

No No - it would all be in the afternoon because you wouldn't be ready to leave the delivery office before dinnertime, mostly because you will be starting later, maybe in shifts, one lot starts at 9, one at 10, one at 10.30, one at 11 because the mail takes time to:

a. Get to the delivery office
b. Be prepared in walk sequencers
c. Accommodate all the part time hours

The flats (at least initially) and packets ad infinitum will have to be sorted so that will take up the slack between sequencing and delivery.

Once they get efficient Walk Sequencing Machines in the newer, larger Mail Centres they will close all the Delivery Offices and have us all self employed working from home with pouches of mail dropped off at our homes for us to deliver by whatever means we choose.

That has been a consideration mooted more than once but I don't think RM is likely to want to lose control of deliveries in quite that fashion. The scenario is more likely to be a hiving off of deliveries to some unsuspecting consortium who will then be responsible for the universal delivery, the large workforce and customers. RM will be holding its hands up and saying "it's not us Guv" - rather like TNT does now.
