Ballot papers issued to decide on industrial action
Postmen are voting on whether to strike to save Milton Keynes mail centre.
Union CWU said it was still talking to management yesterday, but there was no sign of a deal that would safeguard the distribution depot at Dawson Road, Bletchley, and others earmarked for closure as part of re-organisation.
Strike ballot papers issued to some 550 workers at Dawson Road are due for return on December 3.
Our sister paper Citizen First revealed last week a series of one-day strikes were threatened if Royal Mail did not withdraw plans to shut Dawson Road in favour of a new regional centre at M1 Junction 15 that would see, the union claims, hundreds of local jobs lost.
Union branch secretary Paul Moffat said he "remained optimistic" yesterday that Royal Mail bosses would come forward with proposals that would avert industrial action.
