PO jargon just "gobbledygook" says war vet

A WORLD War Two veteran has hit out at the "gobbledygook" used by the Post Office in attempting to explain their latest posting dates for Christmas 2008, which he describes as a "different language away out on in a world of its own".
Joe Monro, of Middleton Park, was looking for information from the organisation on sending Christmas parcels and cards to relatives overseas and he says he was flabbergasted at the A4 sheet he was handed to explain what this year's Christmas deadlines were like.

"I was left absolutely flummoxed by the Royal Mail's explanation leaflet which talks about things like contracted sorted priority mail, Mailsort 3, Presstream 2, Walksort 2 and USO parcels and MOR parcels.

"In fact I would go as far as say that the only thing I recognised in the entire sheet was first and second class and I have never liked the mention of a class system for our mail, it seems so wrong in this day and age.

"Yet it was the only thing that was genuinely understandable in this leaflet, which was, after all, meant to make things easier, not more difficult when you come to post your Christmas gifts and cards.

"I want to know what happened to the simple Christmas posting dates format of 1st class, 2nd class and parcel times and prices, which we can all understand and make good use of.

"These descriptions that are provided mean very little to me and I am sure there will be many more people the length and breadth of the country just like me who are looking to try and make some sense of this!

"Posting a letter or a parcel used to be a relatively straightforward process and I think matters like many things in life have been made more difficult.

"That's all the stranger, because the Post Office have been losing money and you would think they would want to encourage as many people as possible to use the service.

"I still think their service could be improved upon, simply by making things easier to understand and using simple and recognisable language."

A spokesperson for Royal Mail: "The last posting date leaflets were intended for our business customers who use the services outlined on the leaflet.

"The leaflets have now been withdrawn and will be replaced with a more customer friendly version. We would like to apologise for any confusion caused to our customers."
