'What have I got to do to stop these post errors?'
http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/news/ ... ticle.html
A RETIRED engineer says he is so fed up with his postman making mistakes that he is holding on to wrongly delivered letters until Royal Mail solves the problem.
Frederick Moore, who lives in Winster Road, Chaddesden, said that for the past few months he had been getting letters for occupants of the same number Winchester Crescent, also in Chaddesden.
The 66-year-old has complained to the Royal Mail about the problem but the apology he received was received with two letters for the other house.
He said he usually delivers the incorrectly delivered letters to the right address himself or puts them back in the postbox with a direction to the postman.
But after receiving the same letter three times, despite writing a note to the postman on the envelope, he has declared "enough is enough".
"It is getting ridiculous now," said Mr Moore, a former BT engineer.
"In this day and age, with identity theft on the rise, it is not safe. Something needs to be done about it."
Mr Moore said he is also worried that post meant for him might be going to a Winchester Crescent address instead.
He said: "It has been going on for about six months, probably longer than that.
"It is not safe and I am fed up with it. I also don't know what has gone missing."
Fortune Gombera, 34, lives at the Winchester Crescent address that keeps getting mixed up with Mr Moore's address.
He said he had noticed that some of his post had been missing, adding: "It is ridiculous. I don't think the postman takes much notice.
"The other week, I had mail for another address, I took it to them and it turned out to be a cheque. There could be important letters for me but we might not be receiving them because of these problems."
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We are very sorry to learn of the continued problems Mr Moore has suffered with his mail delivery and would like to thank him for bringing it to our attention.
"We are collecting the wrongly delivered mail so that it can be delivered properly as quickly as possible.
"We have put a series of additional measures and checks in place to ensure that the mail is delivered correctly and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."

'What have I got to do to stop these post errors?'
This was always going to happen whenever lapsing came in, instead of a dedicated postie prepping and delivering the mail, it's prepped by one person and then delivered by different people and they are just going to put the mail into wherever it has been prepped (nobody wants to run the risk of bringing missorts back and end up getting sacked by a petty manager out for just their bonuses). I can only see this kind of situation getting worse as the staff get cut more and more and workload continues to increase, afterall dumping mail into someones letterbox 'by mistake' will always be an option to overworked staff.

You think being a retired worker he'd hand them to the postie himself and explain the problem or is he an incessant whinger with nothing beter to do than write letters to royal fail ...perhaps he's not got the balls to speak to the postie though ??

Too right, no patience with the useless lazy dorks of the world...
He could well be a whinger, but then again, how many times does he (and the other one) have to sort out thier mail?
Winster Road, Winchester Crescent; yeah, I can well see how some dyslexic ex-Special Needs person could confuse the two, what with both starting with the same three letters.
And people wonder why RM is viewed in a poor light these days..

I don't know how long you have been a delivery officer TMan but it is sometimes easy to confuse two similar addresses because rather than reading the whole address you merely read the first few letters and you sort to the frame so quickly. On the old frames each address was checked twice. There is a puzzle which leaves out a good proportion of letters from a sentence and yet the sentence can be read with ease and I feel that is a factor - however in the circumstances it would make sense for a manager to have the mail for those two addresses checked on a daily basis prior to the officer leaving for delivery, that has certainly been a practice in the past.Tman wrote:Too right, no patience with the useless lazy dorks of the world...![]()

Tman has already said he is not a frontline postie, he doesn't know what he's talking unless he preps and delivers around on a regular basis.

T-Man has said that he is an engineer in a MC. Of course I wasn't suggesting that all engineers (or ex-engineers)
have a dislike for posties, but .....

Let me finish that for you - "those who can, do those who can't criticise".baldrick wrote:T-Man has said that he is an engineer in a MC. Of course I wasn't suggesting that all engineers (or ex-engineers)

I used to deliver to an estate that was based on royal titles each ending in .............way - totally different addresses by any stretch of the imagination but I could almost certainly guarantee to have 3 or 4 wrong out of 600+ addresses each day, in fact I used to congratulate myself if I didn't have any errors and believe me that wasn't very often. Hands up all those who think I was a crap delivery officer .................... OK you can put your hands down now. Tman your hand doesn't count.

I find quite often that a holiday cover or a new rotation officer will make mistakes on delivery on my round when I am off. To be fair to them - I make the same sorting mistakes occasionally on a walk I have had for ages. The only difference is that I will spot the missort on the walk because I know it better and save the error at point of delivery. Whilst my walk is much bigger now after Pegasus crapped on it there are enough short cuts through it to redeliver at almost any point without too much trouble.
By the way - most engineers will boast about the tolerances they can work to - we don't have ANY !!!

Pretty much the expected replies, but ultimately still attempting to defend the indefensible.
It's a process that's been carried out for hundreds of years in mostly with complete success, and it surely isn't rocket science.
The occassional blip is to be expected, but for the same mistake to be repeated enough for this person to complain about it?
Don't give me that "I'm under stress.." crap either
this is RM after all.

a good point well misssed by all it appears disgruntled.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:This was always going to happen whenever lapsing came in, instead of a dedicated postie prepping and delivering the mail, it's prepped by one person and then delivered by different people and they are just going to put the mail into wherever it has been prepped (nobody wants to run the risk of bringing missorts back and end up getting sacked by a petty manager out for just their bonuses). lapsing, absorbtion and walks thrown off not by the person doing the walk i think thats the killer.
The walk holder turns up bands the mail bags it up and off they go.
Again good point well missed.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP
