A POSTAL worker who stole more than £45,000 in vouchers and sold them on eBay has been sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Andrew Leddy, 33, was caught in a sting operation in April at Ripon’s main sorting offence when managers became suspicious following a series of missing and damaged parcels.
The court heard how Leddy, of Glasshouses, had acted in desperation after running up debts of £25,000.
The father-of-four pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and four of burglary, saying he had used the proceeds of his crimes to buy food and essentials for his family.
Sentencing him, recorder Toby Wynn said: “I regard your case as an exceptionally sad one. A father-of-four in your situation is nothing short of tragic.
“However, you didn’t succumb to a moment’s temptation, but stole repeatedly. Because of the sums involved and the feckless way you stole that money, a custodial sentence is necessary”
Mr Wynn said Leddy was lucky to escape the usual three to four-year sentence. He ordered him to serve six months of the 12-month sentence.

When will dodgy posties realise thet if you start knicking, you build up a pattern. This pattern becomes noticable and you get caught!
"I once asked a girl if she was an undertaker cos i had a stiff that needed seeing too"
" I once went into a watch menders, slapped me knob on the desk and said can you put a couple of hands on that?"

I have seen it happen 6 times in my office in the last 20 years there may have been cases I haven't heard of, mostly falsely claiming dockets, stealing packets and a really sad one of a Postie of 30 years who was done for stealing Specials, the last one has thrown away 30 years of pension, sacked and has a criminal record also is too late to start again in a new job
