A POSTMAN has appeared in court accused of carrying out a series of brutal stabbings in Ely.

Thirty-three-year-old Philip Gregory, of Broad Street, Ely, has been charged with three counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He appeared at Cambridge Magistrates Court and the case was adjourned for a preliminary hearing at the city's crown court on Tuesday.

No applications for bail were made and Gregory was remanded in custody.

Residents have spoken of their shock after the knife attacks.

Three people were stabbed in two incidents in central Ely at about 2am on Sunday.

One man was stabbed in the stomach in Market Square. Shortly afterwards another man and a woman were stabbed in Broad Street.

Two of the victims suffered serious injuries.

I don't think anyone can say what exactly happened until more information comes out but I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often with what's going on at the moment.

I thought the suggestion that it could be the DOM and relatives thereof, was intended as a joke. Sorry. I didn't realise that it was a serious comment. :oops:
