A “high risk” offender who admitted arson and criminal damage offences has been remanded in custody after fleeing to the Isle of Wight and failing to attend court.

Riley Easterbook appeared before Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 12, having missed a hearing October 7, prompting a warrant for his arrest.

The 34-year-old, previously of Stracey Road in Norwich, but now linked to an Island address, had previously admitted arson and criminal damage.

The court heard that on February 22, Easterbook deliberately set fire to a rubbish bin outside a property in Norwich.

The incident had been captured on Ring doorbell footage.

The criminal damage charge concerned incidents between May 10 and 15, when Easterbrook damaged a car park entry barrier belonging to Royal Mail.

CCTV footage also showed him attempting to force his way into the back of vans at the sorting office.

Easterbrook, who was born a man but identifies as a transwoman, though listed on the court database as male, was previously handed a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, for a string of other offences including criminal damage and assault.

A national arrest warrant was issued in July after he went missing, before he was eventually traced to an address, believed to be on the Island.

Easterbrook had travelled to the Island without the knowledge or approval of probation officers and had been assessed as posing a "high risk of causing serious harm to the public."

During an earlier hearing, David Foulkes, defending, said Easterbrook had a history of arson and property damage.

At that time, District Judge Matthew Bone deferred sentencing until October 7, giving Easterbrook an opportunity to demonstrate good behaviour and compliance with probation requirements.

However, Easterbrook failed to attend that hearing, resulting in a second warrant being issued for his arrest.

Following his appearance on Monday, October 12, Easterbrook was remanded in custody.

He is now due to be sentenced at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 30.
