Inverclyde MP Martin McCluskey has met local Royal Mail bosses to raise ongoing concerns over postal delays affecting households across the area.
Mr McCluskey visited the Royal Mail sorting office in Greenock to discuss issues including delays to important correspondence, such as NHS appointment and screening letters.
During the visit, he met local management and a representative of the Communication Workers Union (CWU). Discussions focused on delays to time-sensitive mail and the wider pressures facing Royal Mail.
The MP said he recognised the efforts of postal workers and understood that additional staff were being recruited at the Greenock branch. However, he stressed the need for wider challenges affecting Royal Mail to be addressed nationally, noting concerns raised by MPs across the UK about deliveries, staff retention and pay.
Particular concern has been raised by constituents who say they have not received important NHS correspondence, including appointment and screening letters.
Mr McCluskey said: "I am in regular contact with Royal Mail about concerns raised by constituents regarding delays to their post, and I appreciated the opportunity to visit the Greenock sorting office and speak directly with local management and the CWU representative.
"I recognise the pressures that postal workers are facing and understand that Royal Mail is recruiting additional staff at the Greenock branch.
"People should be able to have confidence that important NHS communications will reach them."
The issue has been raised ahead of the busy Christmas period, when residents and businesses rely heavily on postal deliveries.
The Telegraph approached Royal Mail for comment but did not receive a response before publication.
