Villagers packed in Port of Menteith’s main hall to celebrate the retirement of a well-kent postie putting the bag away after 36 years of service.

The community-led event brought together residents from across Jim’s postal round for an afternoon of food, gifts, and shared memories.
Jim was joined by his wife, Rosie Martin, who has also recently retired after a career with the NHS, as the Hall filled with well-wishers eager to mark the occasion.
Highlights of the celebration included a framed photograph of Jim beside his Royal Mail delivery van, and a specially decorated cake bearing the Royal Mail livery, made by Megan of Meg’s Home Bakes in Port of Menteith.
Gifts and donations were contributed by the community, with additional support from the Karma Lake Hotel, Nick’s Cook School, and many others. Attendees brought food to share, turning the event into a true village blether in Jim’s honour.
The veteran postie was remembered at the event for the “joy and laughter” brought as he went on his rounds and also the vital role he played as a key worker during the Covid pandemic, where he helped keep the community connected during some of the most difficult days.
