Royal Mail has joined forces with the AA and parts supplier Trents to integrate recycled vehicle parts into its electric delivery fleet, aiming to significantly reduce repair-related emissions and cut downtime.

Under the initiative, Royal Mail will use quality-assured, recycled OEM parts in its accident-damaged vehicle repairs. Managed through the AA’s Accident Management service, the programme supports Royal Mail’s wider sustainability goals while keeping vehicles on the road for longer.
The scheme initially focuses on body panels, bumpers, lights, trims and other non-safety-critical parts, all of which are subject to inspection, grading and quality assurance processes before use.
The move forms part of a growing industry shift towards circular repair practices. By combining electric vehicle adoption with the use of quality-assured recycled OEM parts, organisations can reduce emissions across the vehicle lifecycle while supporting Scope 3 emissions reduction objectives.
David Bartlett, head of accident management at the AA, elaborated: “Fleet operators are under growing pressure to reduce emissions, control costs and keep vehicles on the road. Working with Royal Mail and Trents allows us to tackle two key challenges: reducing Scope 3 emissions associated with vehicle repairs and improving access to parts during ongoing supply chain disruption. The result is lower costs, improved vehicle availability and a more circular approach to repair.”
