Ramsgate is among 140 postcode areas that have been affected by delays in post delivery due to reasons including staff sickness.

Royal Mail says areas affected by high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors, will be serviced by ‘rotating deliveries’ to minimise delays.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Most customers in Ramsgate are receiving deliveries daily where there is mail to deliver, but some are receiving deliveries at least every other day due to resourcing challenges.

“We know how important reliable deliveries are and the team is working hard to improve service as quickly as possible. We expect deliveries to return to normal this week as sickness absence has stabilised and we continue to recruit additional posties.”

The company, bought by Czech billionaire Daniel Křetínský last year, has faced criticism after just 77% of first-class letters arrived on time last year – well short of the 93% target.

That target has since been reduced by Ofcom to 90% of first-class mail to be delivered within one working day and 95% of second-class mail within three days, although these targets are yet to be hit.

Utter rubbish, I have not received mail for 8 days plus, my wife is waiting for an appointment for hospital which would be delivered by post. Only after I spoke to the press today, and called royal mail complaints in London, did the deliver letters dating back 10 days. So have a contingency in place which can be activated promptly based on whichever one of your excuses your going to choose from, so there is no future reoccurrence. Your excuses are poor for an already disgraceful service. I got my mail following a serious complaint, not good enough, its your jobs, do it.

Post in Ramsgate is terrible. My post man is v nice. I get post once in a blue moon and you can never rely on our post for health care ever.

And good luck to anyone trying to retrieve anything from the sorting office either. It opens about an hour a week. My questions are the same as for the bim issues, why is there so much sickness? What are the issues? Where is the leadership?

I think i might become a postman. I have experience of delivering letters that don’t belong to me in Margate / Cliftonville

Government and the foreign owner is to blame, now its privatised its not about the service, but profits. The government doesn’t care. Everything government ever does is liable to disaster most if not all privatisation and the unitary authority dumb idea.

Voted tory in the past? Did you complain and campaign when the Tory government announced it would privatise it like they did water? If not why not or is it just Labour you blame for being in government? Both tories and reform want to provide all or part of the NHS so maybe next time you will think about what they want to do before you vote rather than blaming others for acts of people/governments you voted for.

I didn’t realise the NHS run Royal Mail, but it explains the shambolic service.

Mail deliveries have been excellent here in Birchington-on-Sea.
