Thousands of households across Basingstoke and Deane were hit by postal problems last week.

Royal Mail apologised to customers for "disruption to deliveries" in six postcode areas, including the whole of central Basingstoke along with Tadley, Sherborne St John, Overton, North Waltham, Cliddesden, Baughurst, Pamber, Bramley, Whitchurch, Laverstoke and Hurstbourne Priors.

Royal Mail said the disruption began on Monday, August 17, because of “resourcing issues” at its Basingstoke Delivery Office in Priestley Road.

It said: “We’re sorry to advise that you may experience further disruption to deliveries in parts of the RG21, RG22, RG23, RG24, RG5, RG26 and RG28 postcode areas. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.”

The disruption follows issues with postal deliveries in early July in the Basingstoke and Deane area, also caused by resourcing issues.

Royal Mail issued a similar warning in March 2026, citing resourcing issues at the Basingstoke Delivery Office and potentially delayed deliveries across seven RG postcode areas.

Royal Mail gave an update on the latest disruption on Thursday, August 20, advising that the issues had improved and said “services are recovering”.

More than 150,000 people live in the affected postcode areas.
