MP slams Royal Mail for 'false advertising' over delivery times

A Member of Parliament has called for action from Royal Mail over ongoing postal delivery delays.

Robbie Moore MP is demanding improvements following a significant number of complaints and has raised fresh concerns about the impact on residents.

He said delays have left some households waiting up to two weeks between deliveries.

These delays have resulted in missed hospital appointments, important financial correspondence arriving late, and disruption to everyday life.

Mr Moore said: "Huge thanks to all who have continued to contact me about the delay they have been experiencing with postal delivery locally.

"I have again been in contact with the management at Royal Mail about this issue, as I have huge concerns about how operations and logistical decisions relating to postal delivery within the organisation are being made."

He said he has raised the issue directly with Royal Mail management and recently met with the Regional Operations Director at the Keighley Sorting Office to seek assurances that both regional and national action is being taken to restore a reliable postal service.

Royal Mail's website clearly states that second class post will 'delivered in 3 work days', and first-class post will 'aimed to be delivered the next working day, including Saturdays.'

Mr Moore said: "This clearly isn't happening, and therefore in my mind, this is false advertising by Royal Mail."

He also raised concerns about the misuse of Royal Mail's Economy Access mail service, a less expensive option intended for non-urgent letters.

Mr Moore said: "There is also a separate problem here as it seems some organisations are using this cheaper 'non-urgent economy access service' to deliver urgent letters."

He emphasised that the blame should not fall on postal workers, but rather on national management.

He said: "Our postal workers who are on the ground locally are working incredibly hard delivering our mail, sometimes in difficult circumstances.

"They are doing a great job, and it is unfair to point blame at them, my issue is with the management and logistical decisions that are being made with the organisation.

"I made it very clear to the management that the current situation cannot continue.

"It is simply unacceptable that when a customer purchases a product, that product is not delivered within the time frame it was purchased for.

"Royal Mail as a national organisation need to be open and transparent about that."

Mr Moore said Royal Mail has assured him that changes are being implemented to address the delays, but he pledged to continue raising the issue until "positive progress is made."

Only last month mail bosses apologised for late deliveries in Wilsden.

It blamed short-term local issues, including sickness, can affect deliveries on some routes.

A spokesperson said: "We know how important reliable deliveries are, particularly when people are waiting for bills, medical information or other important letters.

"At times, individual routes may be affected by short-term local issues, such as sickness absence.

"Where this happens, our teams work to clear any outstanding mail as quickly as possible, with items not delivered that day prioritised for the next working day.

"All mail is important."

He is encouraging residents who continue to experience delays to contact him by emailing robbie.moore.mp@parliament.uk with details of their concerns.

Typical Tory MP where was he when his party set the wheels in motion to privatisation? What's baffling is that no MP refers to the Parliamentary Committee meetings, it's almost as if they never took place.
