Royal Mail has released a statement after Oldham residents claimed that they have suffered postal delays lasting up to 10 weeks.

Some Oldham residents say they have gone without post for more than a week, prompting concern and claims of a staff shortage affecting deliveries.

One resident told The Oldham Times they had contacted Royal Mail after more than a week of no post, despite expecting important post, some of which they say was tracked and were informed of a "crisis" in the borough, with not enough postmen to deliver the post to homes.

Royal Mail has denied these claims and stated that Oldham is not one of the areas "most affected" by delivery problems.

Earlier this month, Councillor John Ford, who serves Chadderton North, said he had received "a number" of complaints from residents, including one woman who said she had not received any mail for four weeks.

Another resident said they had received just two deliveries in 10 weeks, while one man said a bill had been delivered late to his home, and would now cost him "a lump of interest".

A different resident reported receiving a letter dated March 10 in June, while someone else said they got a 'pile' of letters after weeks of no post, and that they were dated 'ages ago'.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: "We know how important reliable deliveries are, particularly when people are waiting for bills, appointments or other important letters.

"We are delivering mail across Oldham, including Waterhead.

"We publish regular updates on our website for delivery offices where service is most affected, and Oldham is not currently one of those areas.

"There can still be short-term local issues, such as sickness absence, which affect individual deliveries.

"Where this happens, our teams work to clear any outstanding mail as quickly as possible, with items not delivered that day prioritised for the next working day."

Multiple residents have reported going without post for "weeks".
