READERS have been getting in touch to give us their views amid concerns that letters are taking longer than usual to arrive at homes in the Wrexham area.
The Leader reported earlier this year on the story of one man who had only been receiving his post 'once or twice a week'.
That led to Frank Swinnerton, from Garden Village, having a near miss with a 'crucial' hospital appointment.
Last month, Wrexham Council Leader Mark Pritchard requested and secured the backing of the Executive Board to challenge Royal Mail about growing concerns that Wrexham’s postal service is failing to meet its statutory service levels – and he has pledged to 'go to the very top' of the organisation to get answers.
This week, Royal Mail responded to concerns that letters are taking longer than usual to arrive in the Wrexham area.
They said: "An explanation is there are far fewer letters in the network than there were 20 years ago, with annual volumes falling from around 20 billion to around six billion.
"That means households will not necessarily receive letters as regularly as they used to, which can sometimes make it feel like there has been a gap in deliveries, particularly for people who remember receiving letters almost every day."
Some of you who have been affected by this have been contacting us to tell us about your experiences.
Maxine Perry said: "We get letters that are like two to three weeks old and I’ve missed hospital appointments. They now text me the appointment, so I get them."
Stephen Jones added: "I have had hospital appointments received after the appointment date and gas bills have been delivered after the due date too."
Joanna Williams said: "Acton is awful for it."
Pat Griffiths told us: "I had mail on Tuesday first for the first time in a month. Some important ones in there too, including some that were needed for a legal matter and the pension slip, which should have come on the 5th. Whereas, parcels I have no problems with."
Another, who ished to remain anonymous, told us: "I'm only getting post once a week at mine and that's if we're lucky. Sometimes, we can go two weeks without post then suddenly we get a huge pile on a Thursday.
"To top it off, our Postal voting packs were in today's letter dump."
Louis Williams added: "I am only getting letters around once a week now."
